Close Reads & Text Dependent Discussions - CCSS

The Common Core State Standards are laying down the framework for what we are to teach as educators. The stratego of "Close Reads" in ELA is consistently brought up in CCSS conversations and dialogue. Close reads are readings that foster a deep discussion of the read text. The students are dependent upon the text to adequately contribute their thoughts, insights, and inferences. 'Close Read' is a new phrase but the thought behind it is not. A Close Read is a way for a teacher to 'dig deeper' in the text and strengthen the understanding of the text and to better undersant the author's writing intentions. To assist the WES teachers in close reads we are trying to locate 'close read' resources. Do you have any resources, insights, or knowledge on close reads?

Common Core Standards Glogster

I am attaching a Glogster link pertaining to the Common Core Standards. Glogster is a social network that allows users to create free interactive posters, or glogs. A glog, short for graphical blog, is an interactive multimedia image. It looks like a poster, but readers can interact with the content  This Common Core Standards Glogster was created by a peer teacher, Mrs. Sharon Roseway of Waccamaw Elementary.  She created it to guide our school through the implementation of the Common Core Standards since our county will be implementing them this 2012-2013 school year.

Web 2.0 Educational Resources

I am currently enrolled in a Masters Course at Lesley University.  In this course we are learning how to use and integrate Web 2.0 resources into our curriculum to foster the 21st century learner.  Web 2.0 tools are beneficial for both the teacher and the student in a variety of ways.  Web 2.0 tools and resources allow for efficient and effective integration of technology into the content areas and vice versa.  I plan to add some of theses resources to this blog for future purposes. -amj
